MEP Petras Auštrevičius addresses a meeting at the EU Parliament in Brussels on April 22, 2026

On April 22, 2026, during a Brussels conference at the European Parliament addressing Iranian executions, MEP Petras Auštrevičius urged a fundamental shift in EU policy toward Tehran. Auštrevičius framed the regime’s survival tactics as a direct threat to European peace, warning that Tehran’s missiles may soon reach European capitals. He condemned the regime as a criminal entity that honors no treaties, citing the recent execution of 15 political prisoners as evidence of its lawlessness.

Rejecting both foreign military intervention and the failed policy of appeasement, he argued the solution lies in recognizing the organized forces of change within the country. Auštrevičius specifically criticized efforts to promote the former monarchy, asserting that such moves ignore the Iranian people’s true democratic aspirations. He concluded by demanding the IRGC be blacklisted and identifying the NCRI and its Ten-Point Plan as the only credible path forward for a free, non-nuclear Iran.

The full text of MEP Petras Auštrevičius follows:

Madame Rajavi, dear colleagues, ladies and gentlemen. Very welcome to the European Parliament and since the last time we met in the European Parliament, I took some efforts to improve my Farsi once more. So, let’s try. ‘Dar Parlaman-e Orupa khosh amadid’.

I take it as a credit indeed. I wish I am better, but step by step, you know, a road to freedom sometimes it’s a bit longer than you think. To learn a foreign language as well, takes some years. But, ladies and gentlemen, the situation in Iran not any longer a matter of concern only for Iranians, Iranian people. It matters to all of us.

Peace and security both in the Middle East and in Europe and beyond, and even the world economy are tied to what happens now in Iran. The missiles of Tehran’s rulers can soon reach many European capitals as we have learned. This is a regime that honors no treaty nor any pledge nor international law.

It is a regime that kills its own people every day and does not hesitate to carry out terroristic attacks against us. In the space of one month, it executed, as it was well introduced by Madame Rajavi, 15 political prisoners. Eight were members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran and seven were young protesters who played a significant role in last January’s uprising.

Helping to resolve the threat posed by Iranian regime is our duty and our common interest, not assistance to any foreign faction. It will not repeat, and I will can just make again, that Madame’s Rajavi and colleagues have already said that Iranian question will not be solved by foreign war or appeasement.

I have been convinced for a long time that real change can come only through Iranian people, their action, their resistance and from organized resistance of all of us. What can we do in the European Parliament? I believe we must support the forces of change inside Iran, we must recognize them.

Who are those forces for change in Iran? This is a very rhetoric question sometimes raised in the European Parliament. When we hold hearings in the Foreign Affairs Committee and invite the backers of the former Shah and his son, we’re effectively turning our backs to the people of Iran. It’s clear.

Let me say frankly to my colleagues in the Foreign Affairs Committee, that sessions and session recently was far from the interest of people of Iran and against their desire of for freedom. To recognize, represent and stand together with Iranian people, we must act differently and not waste time.

Thank you.
