Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll in 373 Cities Surpassed 84,900
The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Saturday, August 8, 2020, that the Coronavirus death toll in 373 cities across Iran had passed 84,900. The number of victims in Tehran is 21,000, Khorasan Razavi 6,288, East Azerbaijan 2,450, Fars 2,365, Kurdistan 1,715, Kerman 1,281, Hormozgan 1,080, Semnan 1,065, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad 455, and South Khorasan 410.
Iran: Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Workers Strikes in 12 Provinces Enter Eight-Day Running
Saturday, August 8, 2020, the nationwide strike of oil, gas, and petrochemical workers and employees continued in 20 cities in 12 provinces. Workers and employees of 44 refineries, companies, and factories affiliated with the oil, gas, and petrochemical industry in Isfahan, Ardabil, West Azerbaijan, East Azerbaijan, Ilam, Bushehr, Khorasan Razavi, Khuzestan, Fars, Sistan and Baluchestan, Central, and Hormozgan are on strike.
Kurdish Political Prisoner Haidar Ghorbani Is at Risk of Execution
On Thursday, August 6, 2020, Branch 27 of the clerical regime’s Supreme Court upheld the death sentence for political prisoner Haidar Ghorbani from Kamyaran (Kurdistan Province) and referred the case to the Sanandaj prosecution office responsible for carrying out the verdict.
Iran protester Fatemeh Davand taken to jail to serve over 5 years
Ms. Davand is sentenced to 30 lashes and 65 months in prison for taking part in November 2019 protests
An Iran protester, Ms. Fatemeh Davand was transferred to the Central prison of Urmia on August 6, 2020, to start serving her jail sentence for taking part in the protests in Boukan in November 2019.
Ms. Davand was arrested during the November 2019 protests and sentenced to five years and five months and 30 lashes by the Revolutionary Court of Boukan, in Iranian Kurdistan.
Compulsory Veiling Laws, Summer, and Renewed Crackdown on Women
Since seizing power in Iran, the mullahs’ regime has institutionalized fundamentalist laws, including the compulsory veiling laws for women. The regime also added 27 official agencies, including armed security forces, to the judicial system to enforce these laws.
By refusing to observe compulsory veiling laws, women are able to create cracks in the regime’s pillars of power that are hidden behind the mask of religion. Thus, the mullahs in Iran see any breach of the compulsory veiling laws as a major security issue.

In the current explosive state of Iranian society, the regime has taken every possible measure to prevent the emergence of a new round of uprisings. The recent weeks have seen an uptick in executions, arrests of activists, and other security measures across Iran.

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) has identified 755 of the more than 1500 protesters killed by the regime so far.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) has called on the United Nations to urgently send an international fact-finding mission to Iranian prisons to meet with the detainees.
