Iran’s Regime Raises The Price of Bread as It Continues to Pour Billions into Terrorism and Repression
Bread prices in ten provinces of Iran have increased by 25%. This is making living even harder for a population that was struggling to put food on their tables in the first place.
In a resource-rich country like Iran, earning a loaf of bread has become a dire challenge for people. The economic abnormality stems from the Iranian regime’s incompetent policy spoused with plundering the nation’s wealth to keep its hold on power.
Asr-e-Iran news website claims that the sudden 25 percent increase in bread prices caught everyone by surprise. However, investigations show that the government and the state were not surprised at all. The decision to raise bread prices was made about six months ago, was very calculated, and deliberate, and is fundamentally a political strategy.
Iran Claims Record Foreign Investment Amid Contradictory Economic Indicators
The Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance of the Iranian regime, Ehsan Khandozi, has recently made a bold claim regarding the country’s economic performance. On Saturday, August 10, Khandozi announced that Iran had achieved its highest level of ‘credible foreign investment’ in 16 years during 2023. He further asserted that “Iran was able to attract the trust of different countries despite the pressure of the sanctions,” citing a figure of $5.5 billion in foreign capital attraction over the past year.
However, these claims require careful scrutiny. It’s crucial to understand that Iranian officials often present statistics of ‘foreign investment approved by the government’ as ‘attracted foreign capital.’ In reality, the $5.5 billion figure cited by Khandozi represents permits issued by the government for potential foreign capital attraction, not actual investments realized.
Houra Nikbakht Denied Medical Care in Evin Prison
Houra Nikbakht, a political prisoner in Tehran’s Evin Prison, has been denied specialized medical care despite her worsening health. Recently, she was briefly transferred to a hospital but returned to prison without receiving adequate treatment.
On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Houra Nikbakht was taken to the prison clinic after experiencing body tremors, loss of speech, and severe physical distress. The prison doctor diagnosed her with a stroke.
She was then transferred to the Tajrish Hospital in Tehran, where doctors determined it was not a stroke but warned that she was at high risk of having one. They emphasized that any minor stress, anxiety, or excitement could trigger a stroke.
220 Pages of Documents Link the Islamic Center Hamburg to Khamenei’s Office
Documents obtained by Der Spiegel reveal how the Hamburg Islamic Center followed directives from Khamenei’s office, including supporting Hezbollah and promoting the October 7th attack on Israel.
The German Ministry of the Interior provided Der Spiegel with a 220-page document detailing the activities of the Islamic Center Hamburg (known as the “Blue Mosque“), showing its close ties with the Iranian government and its support for the terrorist group Hezbollah.
The center was closed on July 24th. The German Ministry of the Interior announced that the Islamic Center Hamburg and its subsidiaries in Frankfurt, Munich, and Berlin were banned for following “extremist Islamist objectives.”
Iran’s New Cabinet: Pezeshkian’s Government Under Khamenei’s Control
The list of proposed ministers presented by Massoud Pezeshkian, the new president of the Iranian regime, to the parliament, was predictably formed after extensive consultations with the regime’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, and securing his approval. Pezeshkian has essentially established a joint-stock company managed by Khamenei with significant participation from hardliners and moderates.
For those who have no hope for reform within the regime, nothing has changed. However, regime insiders who participated in the elections with the hope of the so-called reform faction gaining power have once again realized the futility of elections in the Iranian regime.
A brief look at Pezeshkian’s proposed list of ministers provides a more accurate assessment.
Shooting of Arezoo Badri’s Spinal Cord for Not Observing The Mandatory Hijab
Based on reports received by the Iran Human Rights Monitor (Iran HRM), on Monday, July 22, 2024, security forces shot a young woman named Arezoo Badri in the Mazandaran Province town of Nur for not observing compulsory hijab. She sustained serious spinal cord and lung injuries, causing her to lose her ability to walk.
According to an informed source, after approximately 10 days, doctors managed to remove the bullet from Arezoo Badri’s back. However, her lungs and spinal cord have suffered “serious injuries.” “She has no sensation from the waist down, and doctors have said that in the coming months, it will be determined whether she is completely paralyzed from the waist down or not.” After about a week, Ms. Badri is transferred to Tehran to have the bullet removed from her body. She is currently hospitalized in the ICU of Vali-e-Asr Hospital in Tehran. According to specialist physicians, due to the bullet’s impact on her spinal cord canal, the likelihood of her losing the ability to walk completely is “very high.”
