WASHINGTON — Today, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is designating 22 entities based in Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Türkiye for their roles in facilitating the sale of Iranian oil that benefits the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF).  The IRGC-QF is Iran’s most powerful paramilitary force and a designated Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).

The IRGC-QF primarily leverages front companies outside of Iran, which use offshore accounts to transfer hundreds of millions of dollars in profits derived from Iranian oil sales to circumvent sanctions and funnel funds toward IRGC-QF terrorist activities.  Refineries purchasing Iranian oil transfer payments to these front companies, which then move the funds to other front company accounts also controlled by the IRGC-QF.  Iran uses these proceeds to fund its weapons programs and support its terrorist proxies and partners across the Middle East.

Six Crew Rescued, 15 Missing After Houthis Sink Latest Greek Ship in Red Sea

ATHENS, July 9 (Reuters) – Rescuers pulled six crew members alive from the Red Sea after Houthi militants attacked and sank a second ship this week, while the fate of another 15 was unknown after the Iran-aligned group said they held some of the seafarers.

The Houthis claimed responsibility for the assault that maritime officials say killed four of the 25 people aboard the Eternity C before the rest abandoned the cargo ship. Eternity C went down Wednesday morning after attacks on two previous days, sources at security companies involved in a rescue operation said.

The six rescued seafarers spent more than 24 hours in the water, those firms said.

The United States Mission in Yemen accused the Houthis of kidnapping many surviving crew members from Eternity C and called for their immediate and unconditional safe release.

Drones for the Dictatorship – How Swiss Research Fueled Iranian Weapons Technology

An Iranian engineer exploited the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) to acquire cutting-edge Western technology for Iran’s drone program. It has now emerged that his connections extended as far as the Swiss defense procurement agency Armasuisse.

In December 2024, 38-year-old Iranian national Mohammad Abedini Najafabadi was arrested in Rome. The engineer is the CEO of SDRA, a company that manufactures navigation systems for Iranian drones and missiles. The firm’s main clients include the Revolutionary Guards, Iran’s elite military force. Drones have become a key export product of the clerical dictatorship. Russia uses them against Ukraine; Iran and its regional allies deploy them against Israel. The systems are inexpensive, effective—and incorporate high-tech components sourced from the West.

Execution of Two Prisoners in Tabriz

iran-gallows-execution

In the continued escalation of issuing and enforcing death sentences in Iran, two prisoners were executed in Tabriz prison, and five Kurdish citizens from Bukan were collectively sentenced to 12 death sentences and decades of imprisonment by a court that operated under opaque circumstances and failed to uphold basic standards of fair trial. These events have once again drawn the attention of human rights organizations to the deep crisis in Iran’s criminal justice system and the widespread violation of human rights. At dawn on Monday, July 7, 2025, Amin Khosravi and Saeed Asadzadeh, who had been arrested in 2021 on charges related to drug offenses and the murder of an officer, were executed in Tabriz prison.

Judiciary Under the Microscope of Justice – Part 2

iran-judiciary-building

In the collective memory of the Iranian people, the word “judge” no longer evokes a sense of justice, law, or impartiality. Instead, it conjures a terrifying image of fear, oppression, and death. This shift in meaning is not accidental; in the mullahs’ regime, judgment has not served the law but has become complicit in systematic crimes. The term “Judges of Death” has emerged from within the people of Iran to describe those dark figures in the judiciary who have directly participated in the execution, torture, and harsh sentencing of political and ideological prisoners. These figures have written their verdicts in blood, and their names are intertwined with the nation’s darkest nightmares.

On Monday, July 7, 2025, Qezel Hesar Prison once again witnessed an organized and violent assault by prison guards against inmates. According to reports, the special guard unit stormed Ward 1 of the prison, thoroughly searching all prisoners’ personal belongings. During this harsh inspection, a large amount of prisoners’ property—including clothes, blankets, books, hygiene items, and even essential medicines—was damaged or completely destroyed.

This action, justified by prison officials as a “security check,” in practice blatantly targeted the human dignity of the prisoners and made their living conditions even more difficult. Eyewitnesses and prisoners’ families described the raid as “brutal” and “humiliating,” an event that clearly amounts to psychological torture and the creation of a constant atmosphere of fear and insecurity inside the prison.

Alarm Bells for Iran’s Healthcare System as Interest in Medical Specialties Declines

Two Iranian medical staff rest on the ground after extended emergency duty, reflecting the strain on healthcare workers amid ongoing crises

Abbas-Ali Raees-Karami, the president of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, announced a decline in interest among applicants for six core and subspecialty medical fields and warned that the absence of candidates in these fundamental disciplines poses a serious challenge to Iran’s healthcare system. On July 7, Raees-Karami stated that demand has dropped for six key fields: obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, and emergency medicine—all considered foundational medical specialties.

He warned that the admission of only one pediatrics resident in Khuzestan province for the current academic year signals a looming shortage of pediatric specialists in the region within the next three years.

Regime Signals Return to 1988-Style Executions Amid Post-War Repression in Iran

Khavaran-Cemetery-in-Tehran-Iran

Tehran’s official narrative praises past mass killings as a “successful experience” as arrests and executions intensify

Three weeks after the end of the 12-day Iran-Israel war, Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency published a disturbing opinion piece advocating for a repeat of one of the darkest chapters in the Iranian regime’s history: the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988.

In a note titled “Why Should the Experience of the Executions of ’88 Be Repeated?”, Fars claims, “Today is the time to repeat this successful historical experience.” This declaration has alarmed human rights observers and political analysts, especially as warnings mount over a new wave of arrests and executions targeting individuals accused of espionage and collaboration with foreign powers.
