Khamenei Tries to Boost The Morale of His Demoralized Forces

In an effort to exude power and control at a precarious time, Iranian regime supreme leader Ali Khamenei attended the Friday prayer sermon in Tehran on October 4 under heavy security restrictions and measures. Khamenei’s goal was to lift the spirits of his demoralized forces, who were increasingly quarreling among themselves.

To this end, he once again beat the war drum, calling the regime’s recent missile attack a “brilliant action,” and stated: “The brilliant work of our armed forces two or three nights ago was completely legal and legitimate. What our armed forces did was the minimum punishment for the usurping Zionist regime in response to its astonishing crimes; a bloodthirsty regime, a wolf-like regime, America’s rabid dog in the region. The Islamic Republic will carry out any duty it has in this regard with strength, firmness, and decisiveness.”

Iran’s Infrastructure on The Verge of Collapse

The explosion at the Tabas coal mine was one of the most tragic mining accidents in Iran, resulting in the heartbreaking death of more than 50 hard-working miners at a depth of approximately 500 meters underground.

One of the many reasons for this disaster was the mine’s outdated equipment and infrastructure. Images gradually released showing the conditions (or rather the forced labor) of the workers, in addition to medieval tools such as shovels and pickaxes, and their torn clothing and boots, the terrible state of the tunnels, broken-down wagons, and unsafe scaffolding demonstrated that the mining equipment had been abandoned for years without proper maintenance or repairs.

Iran’s Regime of Repression and War: The Decline of Power and Legitimacy

For 45 years, Iran and the broader Middle East have suffered under the cancerous influence of the mullahs’ regime. This government has repeatedly driven the region to the brink of destruction.

When the Shah’s dictatorship fell, it was replaced by the more dangerous rule of the clerics. Initially, the Iranian people celebrated the fall of the Shah, unaware of the dark future awaiting Iran, the region, and the world. The 1979 establishment of the Velayat-e Faqih dictatorship quickly revealed its oppressive nature. Freedoms were stripped away, and warmongering became a tool to suppress dissent. Pursuing freedom was branded a crime, leading to the imprisonment, torture, and execution of thousands. To date, over 120,000 people have been massacred or subjected to torture, executions, and terrorism by the regime.

A hallmark of this regime is its manipulation of religion to maintain power. Khomeini, the regime’s founder, gained the trust of the Iranian people by positioning himself as a religious leader, a source of moral and political authority, by exploiting this trust, Khomeini and his successors infected human values with religious authoritarianism, dividing society between believers and non-believers. Those who opposed the regime, especially the Velayat-e Faqih, were labeled “mohareb” (enemies of God) and “corruptors on Earth,” often facing the death penalty.

Zahra Fayzi, 41, Executed in Tabriz Central Prison

On the morning of Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the execution sentence for a woman named Zahra Fayzi was carried out in Tabriz Central Prison. Zahra Fayzi, aged 41 and a resident of Tabriz, was arrested four years ago on charges of murdering her husband and was sentenced to qesas (retribution in kind).

The victim’s family demanded 4.5 billion tomans from Zahra’s family to halt the execution, but her family was unable to gather this amount. This sum far exceeds the official blood money rate in Iran, which has been set by the judiciary at 1.2 billion tomans for 2024. The lack of a ceiling on blood money in Iran allows the victim’s family to request amounts significantly higher than the official rate, often leading to the execution of those unable to afford such payments.

Legal actions have been taken against some individuals, while others have received warnings. “For those who have been charged, judicial cases have been opened,” the Mizan report added.

Iran’s Regime Likely Involved in Attacks on Israeli Embassies in Scandinavia

Following explosions and shootings near Israeli embassies in Sweden and Denmark, Sweden’s security service reported the possibility of Iran’s involvement. Fredrik Hallstrom, head of operations at Sweden’s security service, stated in a press conference on Thursday, October 3rd, in response to a question about Iran’s potential connection to these incidents, that there are elements that could point in that direction.

He added that this possibility is partly due to the choice of targets [of the attack] and the manner of execution but emphasized that this is purely speculative and not based on complete information. On Wednesday, Danish police reported two explosions, “likely with hand grenades,” near the Israeli embassy in Copenhagen and announced the arrest of three Swedish citizens in connection with the incidents.

Khamenei’s Strategy After October 7:The Gaza Conflict’s One-Year Impact on Iran’s Regional Role

The war in the region is expanding, and the Iranian regime’s proxy forces are at risk. Many of Iran’s long-standing achievements have either been lost or are on the verge of being lost. The question is: What can Khamenei( the supreme leader) do in such a situation? The supreme leader of Iran believed that after the October 7 attack, the war would end quickly, and he would be recognized as the region’s guardian and a powerful government. He hoped that this status would allow him to increase the scope of appeasement and extend the life of his regime.

However, as we near the first anniversary of the Gaza war, many of Khamenei’s illusions have faded, and the situation has become so difficult for him that he told his proxy forces and the Revolutionary Guards to “tighten their belts.”
