In a bold show of international support for Iran’s pro-democracy movement, 56 members of Moldova’s 101-seat parliament have signed a joint statement backing the Iranian Resistance and endorsing the Ten-Point Plan of Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI). The statement was released amid growing global concern over Tehran’s human rights abuses and escalating regional destabilization efforts.

The signatories include Igor Grosu, President of the Moldovan Parliament; Doina Gherman, Vice President of the Parliament; and Ina Coșeru, Chair of the Foreign Affairs Commission. Other prominent signatories are Larisa Voloh, Chair of the Commission for Public Administration and Regional Development; Adrian Belîi, Chair of the Commission on Social Protection, Health, and Family; and Olesea Stamate, Member of Parliament and former Minister of Justice. The statement is also backed by eight deputy chairs of various parliamentary commissions, reflecting broad institutional support.

The lawmakers condemned Iran’s record of executions and political repression, particularly referencing the sentencing of nine political prisoners to death in late 2024 for alleged ties to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK). “Public protests and resistance activities continue to intensify,” the statement reads. “The regime has unsuccessfully tried to suppress this momentum through mass arrests and executions.”

The Moldovan MPs emphasized that the Iranian people rejected all forms of dictatorship—monarchic or theocratic—during the 2022 uprising, and that the path forward must be a democratic republic. The statement also urged the international community to recognize the Iranian people’s right to resist tyranny, specifically endorsing the PMOI’s Resistance Units, and called for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to be designated as a terrorist organization.

The MPs expressed concern over the regime’s attempts to crush dissent by enforcing harsh religious edicts, including the mandatory hijab law, and by using the death penalty as a tool of political suppression. “The Iranian opposition’s democratic platform calls for ‘No to mandatory hijab, no to compulsory religion, no to imposed rule, and no to executions,’” the declaration says, affirming support for this vision.

The statement also addressed the regime’s regional meddling. “A pillar of Tehran’s survival strategy has been reliance on proxy groups and domination of neighboring countries,” it noted. “The collapse of the Syrian dictatorship and the weakening of Hezbollah have dealt a severe blow to this strategy.”

Highlighting that Tehran has closed all legal avenues for political expression, the Moldovan legislators urged governments around the world to recognize the legitimacy of the Iranian people’s struggle for democratic change. They cited Maryam Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan as a credible roadmap for a peaceful transition to democracy, equality, and secular governance.

The initiative follows a global wave of parliamentary endorsements. In June 2024, more than 4,000 lawmakers and over 100 former heads of state and government voiced support for the Iranian Resistance’s democratic vision. Moldova now joins that growing international coalition.
